Commissioned Works

Working on commission pieces is exciting -- it pushes me to explore and create in new directions.  An end result that pleases both the client and me is wonderfully satisfying. If you have a special project in mind, I'd love to discuss it with you!

 Compass Rose Tile Hearth Rug

The owners of a charming cottage at Mill Point, Starboard, ME wanted a hearth rug to protect the old painted floors from the heat of the gas log fireplace.  Being avid boaters and sailors, they wanted a Compass Rose design with North accurately indicated.  Here's the result, with the rope edging just waiting for the proper knots to be tied in the ends.

Karynlandia Mugs

A husband requested a series of mugs for his wife for their anniversary. His wife had written a story about a difficult year of medical issues and set the saga in Karynlandia.  Blue Moon Fiber Arts chose the story and its colors for a line of hand-dyed yarns.  He sent me a skein of the yarn and I made sample mugs with vertical and horizontal stripes, and horizontal stripes were chosen.  Here they are with the yarn inspiration.  Bonus:  I got to keep the yarn!

Sails and Seas Tile Tabletop

Sometimes I do a fun project for us, like this tile tabletop of my signature Sails and Seas design.  The border tiles with the raised shells were made in plaster molds cast from shells on our beach.

Pinnacle Advisor Group

A partner from Pinnacle Advisor Group was visiting a friend in Maine, and he wanted to buy some lighthouse ornaments.  His friend brought him to my studio, knowing that I had made some.  Later, his office asked if I could make an ornament reflecting the lighthouse on their business cards.  They chose one from the samples I made and gave them as gifts to special clients at Christmas time.

Pinnacle Lighthouse Ornament

The beauty of raku firing is that the same glazes on 100 lighthouses will be a bit different on each one, more or less luster, more or less crackle, making each an original piece.

 Cat Yarn Bowl

Whisker Design

A friend who's an avid knitter started talking to me about yarn bowls -- she wanted me to make her one.  Cooperating with my daughter, Alayna Wilcox Beckham, the artist who draws these cats, we created this bowl with the paw cutout and the mischievous cat.
